Fix out-of-sync subtitles

Subtitles too early or too late? Shift every line by a few seconds, or fix subtitles that slowly drift away from the audio – and download the corrected file.

How it works

  1. 1

    Load your subtitles

Drop an SRT or VTT file, or paste the subtitles.

  2. 2

    Fix the timing

Shift everything by a few seconds or sync two points to fix drift.

  3. 3

    Download

Save the corrected file in its original format.

Two ways to fix the timing

If every subtitle is off by the same amount, use Shift and enter the delay in seconds – positive values make subtitles appear later, negative values earlier.

If subtitles start in sync but slowly drift away (common when the frame rate differs, such as 23.976 vs 25 fps), use Sync by two points: enter the correct start time of the first and the last subtitle and every line in between is stretched to fit.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my subtitles out of sync?

Usually because the subtitle file was made for a different version of the video – with another intro, a different cut or a different frame rate.

How do I know how much to shift?

Pick a line, note the moment it is spoken in the video and compare it with the subtitle’s start time. The difference is your shift value.

Does the file keep its format?

Yes. An SRT file stays an SRT and a VTT file stays a VTT.
